Abstract
A review has been made of 238 patients with invasive carcinoma of the uterine cervis treated primarily at the University of Virginia Hospital from Sep. 1968 through June 1973. A minimum follow-up of five years is available in all cases. A consistent treatment policy has been employed using a combination of external pelvic irradiation and intracavitary radiocesium insertion. Along with a discussion of the treatment policy, the results of treatment, patterns of failure and complications are presented for 217 patients treated primarily by radiotherapy. The absolute and relative five year survival rate were 49.7% and 59% respectively. Local failure without other disease occured in only 33/217(7%). The major complication rate was 4.6% with rectal complications the most common.
